About the Plan

Investments

As a “nonqualified plan,” the Deferred Compensation Plan allows you to defer paying taxes on the compensation you defer until it is distributed to you. The trust that holds your deferrals must remain part of Komatsu's general assets and, as a result, is subject to the claims of Komatsu's creditors.

However, you are able to direct how your deferrals are invested. The investment options in the DCP mirror those in the Retirement Savings Plan.* The menu includes a broad range of choices to ensure that you have the opportunity to diversify your account. You may choose a separate investment election for each source of your own deferrals or company contributions if you wish. If you do not make an investment election, your deferrals and company contributions will be defaulted to the Vanguard Target Date Fund that most closely matches your retirement date based on your year of birth and an assumed retirement at age 65. Keep in mind that past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Vanguard Target Date Funds are designed for investors expecting to retire around the year indicated in each fund's name. Except for the Vanguard Target Retirement Income Fund, the funds' asset allocation strategy becomes increasingly conservative as it approaches the target date and beyond. Ultimately, they are expected to merge with the Vanguard Target Retirement Income Fund. The investment risks of each Vanguard Target Date Fund change over time as the funds' asset allocations change. The funds are subject to the volatility of the financial markets, including equity and fixed income investments in the U.S. and abroad and may be subject to risks associated with investing in high yield, small cap, and foreign securities. Principal invested is not guaranteed at any time, including at or after the target dates.

Please note: Since this is a nonqualified plan, the company owns the investment until you separate from service and receive your distribution, but you will be granted any earnings or losses on your account based upon your individual investment elections.
